We believe the status quo is failing our rural farmers and vendors. On one hand, transporting goods miles away to a massive, centralized coldroom simply isn't feasible for a local shop owner. On the other, relying on standard grid-tied refrigerators is far too expensive and vulnerable to power outages.
The future of agricultural cooling requires accessible, decentralized, off-grid technologies that live exactly where the food is harvested and sold.
This is why we built FreshKeep. Designed for rural agricultural markets, FreshKeep is a solar smart storage unit that utilizes highly efficient, solar-compatible refrigeration and integrated thermal energy storage to prevent crop spoilage without completely relying on the national grid.
With HangaVision LTD officially registered just before the expo, the 19th Rwanda AgriShow marked the first public introduction of our working prototype.
Getting a hardware prototype out of the workshop and onto the national stage is never a solo endeavor. We had the distinct privilege of exhibiting as innovators supported by Rwanda Polytechnic (RP).

Having the institutional backing of RP provided a platform to stand alongside major industry players. More importantly, it meant sharing the floor with a brilliant group of fellow innovators actively developing the next generation of agrotech and agro-processing solutions. We aren't all building the exact same products, but we are united in solving the same systemic challenges.

When designing our booth, we printed custom banners and flyers to visually communicate the business model and the mechanics of the FreshKeep prototype. While the flyers provided a great visual overview, we quickly learned that the most impactful moments happened face-to-face.
We spoke with a surprisingly diverse crowd—not just traditional agricultural stakeholders but also homeowners, shop owners, and international visitors who immediately recognized gaps in current infrastructure.
We also had the opportunity to exchange ideas with students from the Rwanda Institute for Conservation Agriculture (RICA). Engaging with the next generation of agricultural experts provided deep insights into modern conservation farming and reinforced the direct role of decentralized cooling in the future of food security.

By focusing directly on real end users and the broader impact of the technology, rather than theoretical personas, the conversations yielded invaluable on-the-ground validation. Attendees echoed the urgent need for cooling that exists exactly where the food is actually stored and sold, bypassing the logistical hurdles of centralized hubs.
Hardware is tactile; people need to see it work.
To prove the "smart" aspect of our smart storage, we set up our solar-integrated system and connected the live sensor metrics directly to a mobile smartphone interface. We were particularly honored to host a delegation from RP Gishari College, including the Principal, at our booth.

Instead of just explaining the technology, we could show attendees the live environmental data updating in real-time on a mobile screen. It bridged the gap between an abstract engineering concept and a tangible, user-friendly product.
If AgriShow 2026 taught us anything, it’s that the market is ready for a shift. The genuine interest from everyday consumers and potential partners validated our core belief in decentralized, solar-compatible cooling.
We are heading back to the workshop with pages of field notes and a clear roadmap for FreshKeep's next iteration. The expo is over, but the real work of building an accessible, off-grid agricultural cold-chain is just beginning.
